Gleaning

"A Few Gleanings".

Nature’s art work, line, texture, drawings and paintings, organic and ephemeral.

Glean

To gather grain or other produce left by the reapers

To gather information or material bit by bit

The gleaners, those that glean.

Gleaning, an ancient law or right from the days of the old testament, certain members of the population were accorded the right to glean or gather grain after the reapers. The farmers were expected to leave the grain from the second beating on the ground. In this way the poor were able to feed themselves and their families.

They gleaned that which was of value to them, grain, food.

Reaper.

Those called in at the right time in a season to cut the ripened grain.

Reapers.

Time, change, season, nature, ourselves.

Gleaning images in a landscape that is constanatly changes or is at risk of change.

There was landscape before agriculture and industrialisation, I wonder if by gleening I will find a hint of what was there before. Certainly I will capture something before the roadside verge is cut the meadows ploughed or the season changes.

About Me

Peter Johnson
An artist with a camera, computer and printer. My current work, studies of water surface has evolved from reflections, ripples, through an investigation of the relationship of place with its water, to convex meniscus. Ditch, pond, spring, fountain, brook, canal, provide places of exploration and visual excitement, always fresh, changing according to season and available light, sunny days provoke a feeding frenzy. Photo-graphy, drawing with light, by extension painting with light.
